Community Outreach at CBN HC

At CBN Hockey Club, we are dedicated to making a positive impact across East Lancashire through a variety of Community Outreach initiatives. Throughout the year, our "Hockey Horizons Community Initiative" and other projects aim to provide more opportunities for engagement, increase awareness of hockey, build partnerships, and improve health outcomes in our communities.

Our outreach efforts target key areas, including Burnley & Padiham, Clitheroe & Ribble Valley, Blackburn & Darwen, Accrington & Hyndburn, and Rawtenstall & Rossendale. Through these initiatives, we not only promote physical activity and well-being but also work to upskill local residents, providing them with valuable volunteering opportunities that contribute to their personal and professional development.

Hockey Horizons Community Initiative

Thanks to funding from Sport England and the Movement Fund, we’ve launched the "Hockey Horizons Community Initiative." This project introduces and expands hockey in street hockey settings across East Lancashire, specifically focusing on underserved communities. Our goal is to establish free, weekly pop-up hockey sessions in local Multi-Use Games Areas (MUGAs), making the sport accessible to everyone

Through these sessions, we aim to:

  • Increase Access to Sport: Offering free, regular hockey sessions to break down barriers to sports participation.
  • Promote Community Cohesion: Bringing together diverse groups through sports to foster mutual respect and camaraderie.
  • Improve Health and Well-being: Encouraging physical activity that benefits both mental and physical health.
  • Reconnect Cultural Heritage: Enhancing cultural pride, particularly among communities with a rich history in hockey, like those from Indian and Pakistani backgrounds.

Upskilling and Volunteering

A critical part of our outreach is the development of local talent. We focus on training and empowering local residents to become coaches, activators, and volunteers. This not only ensures the sustainability of our programs but also provides valuable skills that can be applied in various aspects of life, fostering leadership and community engagement.

Our Community Outreach also includes regular events and activities, such as:

  • School Festivals: Partnering with local schools to promote hockey and guide students into our free community sessions.
  • Open Days: Hosting events to introduce new participants to hockey and showcase our programs.
  • Volunteer Training Programs: Ongoing development of volunteers to support our sessions and become future leaders in their communities.
